Sony PlayStation VR Could Soon Expand Beyond PS4 And Offer PC Support -  Sony is considering the possibility of bringing PlayStation VR compatibility to PCs, a recent report indicates.

 

Japanese publication Nikkei talked to Masayasu Ito, executive vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment, and learned some interesting tidbits of information.

The executive noted that his company is looking into the possibility of making the VR headset compatible with Windows PC after its official launch in October.

Currently, the PlayStation VR needs a PlayStation 4 and a PlayStation Camera to run. According to a translation from Reddit user MSDefenseForce, Ito considers that the similarity between the architecture of PlayStation internal parts and the ones from a PC could leave room for integration.

Ito made clear that, even if Sony is exploring the future of PlayStation VR and PC compatibility, its current focus is on building games exclusively for its ecosystem.

Initially, the PlayStation VR was scheduled to start shipping sometime during the first half of the year. Ito points out that his company postponed the launch of the VR headset to October, as 2 million units are expected to reach their clients. This means that PlayStation 4 owners can blame "greater than initially anticipated" worldwide demand for the delay.

VR enthusiasts will be able to purchase the PlayStation VR for $399. Do note that a PlayStation Camera that enables positional tracking is also required for the full experience, and Sony started taking preorders for the package one week ago.

For $500, gamers will get the PS VR core bundle, containing the PlayStation VR headset, PlayStation VR cables, PlayStation Camera, two PlayStation Move motion controllers, stereo headphones, PlayStation VR Demo Disc and a PlayStation VR Worlds (disc).

Canadian PS fans can get it for $699.99 CAD, the company notes.

Sony is reportedly expecting that about 50 VR games will be up and running at the official debut of the VR headset device. The company notes that gamers will be able to enjoy standard PS4 games and videos in virtual cinema via the VR headset.
